Funny story about this wooden nickel. I found it over the summer in a geocache somewhere between CA and MN. I assumed it was activated and spent weeks trying to "decipher" the code so I could log it and came up with nothing. I posted a picture on the FB page "You might be a geocacher if..." and was told it appeared to be unactivated. So now it's activated and is starting a grand adventure!
Bear Brew is a cacher who thought he could put one TB number on a bunch of wooden nickels, kind of like a pathtag, and send them out as personal swag items. Oops. After multiple emails with him, and several laughs, he willingly allowed me to keep ownership of the TB which I currently have in my possession. If you find one of the wooden nickels in a geocache, PLEASE DO NOT GRAB IT from me. First post it as "discovered" and tell me where you found it. Then, take a sharpie marker and black out the TB # on the wooden nickel that you have. It is NOT the "original" TB. It is merely a collectible item from a super nice cacher which you are welcome to keep. In the meantime, if you DO log it, I will grab it back from you...so sorry for the confusion. This has happened several times.
