I would like this Poppy Coin to “see Canada and the world” ... Some pics along its journey at your local Military Cemetery, Legion, or Cenotaph would be great!
My “special wish” – I hope it makes it to the General Cemetery, Winterswijk, Gelderland, Holland - and can be photographed at my Uncle Clarance’s gravesite.
Then I’d like it to “come back to me”.
I’ve put this coin out to honor all the servicemen who made the “ultimate sacrifice”. One of these was my Uncle Clarance ...
FS Clarance Malcolm McGregor Coghill, RCAF, the son of a farmer at Tantallon, SK, born May 27, 1916. He joined the RCAF in November, 1941, and after training at Brandon, MB, went overseas in March, 1942, to serve with the RCAF attached to the RAF 83rd Squadron in Great Britain. He served as a rear air-gunner in a Lancaster aircraft, operating over continental Europe. Returning from a bombing-run over Essen, Germany, Lancaster aircraft ED334 was reported missing-in-action, April 3, 1943.
Warrant Officer Class II Air Gunner C.M.M. Coghill is buried in the General Cemetery, Winterswijk, Gelderland, Holland, along with his RAF crew mates: E.L. Shandley - F.T. Flower - L. Fieldhouse - D. McEwen - F. Routledge - F.A. Southan.
(Coll. Grave 10-14 Grave No. 2062)
Coghill Lake in northern Saskatchewan is named in honor of Clarance.
