Please drop this item in rural OR Premium Member Only caches. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the travel bug anywhere you wish. No permission is needed to leave the U.S.
Photos in the travel bug logs are appreciated. I will be re-post them here, where they can be seen by other cachers.
This is one of a series of heart-shaped items obtained from different places and converted into travel bugs. They are named either for their place of origin or for Texas Panhandle-South Plains towns with interesting names or histories.
Cotton Center is an unincorporated community of about 200 people in western Hale County. Until the late 19th century the Comanche tribe of Native-Americans occupied the area. In 1907, with the coming of a branch of the Santa Fe Railroad, a number of farming operations were established, many by settlers from east Texas and Oklahoma. Cotton Center was originally created in 1925 as a consolidated school district. In that same year J.C. Brown, local businessman, platted the town and named the community. The naming may have been influenced by Brown’s ownership of a cotton gin. In 1935 a local post office opened, and the first irrigation well was drilled. By the late 1940s irrigation wells proliferated, pumping water from the Ogallala Aquifer.
