Polyface Plucky

Polyface Plucky wants to visit one of America's best-known farms: Polyface Farms, in Swoope, Virginia. Polyface Plucky would very much like to have her photo taken with Polyface's owner, Joel Salatin. Please help Polyface Plucky along on her mission; when it's complete, send her back to Chelsea, MI and place her in Team FMA's I-94 Travel Bug Hostel. Thanks!

Polyface Farms is located at 43 Pure Meadows Lane in Swoope, Virginia. If you've ever seen the documentary "Food, Inc." then you are already familiar with Joel Salatin, Polyface's owner and one of the country's biggest proponents of farming the traditional way... without government interference. In his book, "Everything I Want to Do is Illegal," Joel Salatin shares the woes he faced in his every-day farm operations, from being prohibited by law from butchering his own meat and selling his eggs to local chefs to having to fight for the right to mill his own lumber and call his farm products organic.

Team FMA completely feels and understands Joel Salatin's frustration. Team FMA owns FMA Farms, a heritage-breed poultry farm in southeastern Michigan. While there is so much we would love to do, such as increase the number of hens in our laying flock and sell our eggs to local restauranteurs, our hands are tied by government regulations. In the hopes of gaining knowledge and encouragement, Team FMA is therefore sending its emissary, Polyface Plucky, out into the world, to travel ultimately to Polyface Farms and meet Joel Salatin and his team of apprentices (none, of course, being hired hands due to Child Labor Law restrictions). We'd love for Polyface Plucky to have her photo taken with Joel, after which she should head home to Michigan.

Please keep Polyface Plucky moving towards her goal. If you cannot place her within two weeks, please don't pick her up. Please also don't take her out of the United States! Poyface Plucky wouldn't mind someday visiting farms in Europe and elsewhere but, for right now, she has one goal in mind and that goal is in Swoope, Virginia. Thanks!
