About This Item

Pennsylvania GeoCoin - William

This GeoCoin has been specially released for the benefit of GeoCachers in the UK and Europe. We understand that these coins are often perceived as collectable, but please do not keep it as it spoils it for other cachers.

The rules of the game are up to the individual, but we feel swapping tracking numbers by email to get the logo isn't really part of caching, so we'd prefer it if you'd only log our coins if you've actually seen them in person.

Thanks!

The name Pennsylvania comes from from the Latin phrase meaning "Penn's Woods". The English Quaker William Penn originally wanted to name the state "New Wales", as descriptions of the terrain and climate reminded him of Wales, but the name was rejected due to protest from Welsh members of Parliament, who objected to the name of their region being applied to such a wild and uncivilized territory (especially one founded by Quakers). William Penn then suggested "Sylvania"- Latin for "woods" as an alternative. Charles II amended that name to "Pennsylvania", but as the Quaker religion frowns on such acts of egotism, William Penn objected to the idea, but was placated by the King's proposal to name the state in honor of Admiral Sir William Penn - Penn's father and national hero, rather than William Penn himself.

GC does not seem to have gone very far in 5 years but hopefully we can help it on its way to achieve its mission to travel around the rest of Europe.

Grabbed yesterday from a multi in devoke water in the Lake District. Impressive to find a geocoin that's been going for so long. We will find a cache we think this will be safe in.

I retrieved this in August and placed it in Blithfield Port cache (Staffs) shortly afterwards. I entered all the stuff on my phone and now I see that it didn't log all the details. Oooops!
