Wright Brothers Memorial Benchmarks geocoin
The Wright Brothers Memorial has two benchmarks: Wright 1962 benchmark, PID FW1375,; and Wright Memorial Monument benchmark, PID FW1374. Both are located at the top: one is a disk, and the other is the very top of the beacon light housing. Both benchmarks are depicted on the front of this coin. It also has the coordinates for each one. The top coordinates are for the disk, and the bottom coordinates are for the beacon. It also has an image of the Wright Flyer. All three of these images are made in wonderfully detailed 3-D craftsmanship.
The back of the coin has a highly detailed 3-D image of the Art Deco door. This door is at the base of the memorial and leads you to the stairs that take you to the top of the memorial where the benchmarks are located. Also on the backside is the commemorative phrase wrapped around the door in a similar manner of how it is engraved in stone around the actual memorial.
This coin will be available in two different finishes: bronze and antique silver. The bronze color is in the same color of the benchmark when it was new. The antique silver finish is similar to the actual door.
The Wright Brothers Memorial was built to commemorate the pioneers of powered flight. It is located in Kill Devil Hills, NC and is on the spot where the brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright, experimented with their aircraft. This is the highest spot in Kill Devil Hills on the outer banks. The memorial grounds have several monuments showing where each flight event took place and how far each aircraft traveled. It also has a museum and two recreated buildings they worked out of: the living quarters and hanger.
