This poker chip bug would like to visit the cities that hosted the national Alfa Romeo Owners Club conventions over the past few years. They include Portland, OR (twice) Detroit, Chicago, Manchester, NH, Ft Lauderdale, Seattle, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tulsa and Atlanta. The next 2 conventions will be in Washington, DC (Frederic, MD) and Louisville.
The four-leaf clover symbol on this vintage poker chip would be called a quadrifoglio if we were speaking Italian, which is where Alfa Romeo automobiles have been built since 1910. Early on it became apparent that creating cars that "raced on Sunday would sell on Monday," so Alfas have always had a Cuore Sportivo, or a sporting heart. Since the four-leaf clover has long been a symbol of good luck, a quadrifoglio badge often graced the front cowl of racing Alfas. See the photos for both old and new examples. Interestingly, an employee of Alfa Romeo during the early years made his mark by being a successful race car driver and engineer, and eventually ran the Alfa Romeo factory team before moving on to form his own car company. His name was Enzo Ferrari.
