The chair of Physical and Satellite Geodesy (http://www.gik.kit.edu/satgeodaesie.php) of the Geodetic Institute (http://www.gik.kit.edu/) of the Karlsruhe Institue of Technology (http://www.kit.edu, Karlsruhe, Germany) carries out various and interdisciplinary research. One very important research field deals with motions of the Earth's crust. Within that research field the most recent project focusses on the innovative satellite mission TANDEM-X. GIK's TANDEM-X project is carried out in the framework of the BMBF-funded project "Exupery: Managing Volcanic Unrest – The Volcano Fast Response System" and will verify if data of the TANDEM-X satellite is able to contribute significantly to the monitoring of active vulcanos. A special focus is on the two vulcanos Colima (Mexiko) and Merapi (Indonesien). Therefore, this coin has the mission to visit these two active vulcanos.
