At each location Charlie desires to encourage and assist where needed. Please take lots of pictures.

About This Item

The rifle squad is composed of 10-12 infantry, generally led by a sergeant. 2-3 squads were then combined to form a section and then 2-3 sections made up a platoon.

The squad consisted of the squad leader, riflemen and a light machine gun. The squad was designed to act in concert with other squads to complete an advancement. A general phrase governing the action of the squad was fire and movement. It was the job of the light machine gun to nest for a short period and open fire. Once engaged the enemy could zero in on the gun position, thus the gun team had to move periodically to avoid enemy concentration. The squad's riflemen were to then advance as far as possible towards the enemy line and take a defensive position against the enemy enabling the gun team to change positions. This constant switch allowed the squad to fire and move, thus advancing on the enemy. This tactic used in combination with other squads allowed a platoon to over take an enemy's battle line.
