Grabbed Elsie as we were swapping some bugs we brought with us from up North. When we got bsck to log our finds, we realized Elsie was from WI, and that is where we wre headed back to tomorrow. Maybe a quick return to WI will rejuvenate her on her journey to CA. We will drop her soon in a spot that may help her go West.

I sure had a lot of fun with Elsie but it was time to quit hogging her and let someone else have a turn. Hopefully she will get picked up fairly quickly from this cache. Best of luck in your future travels, little TB.

Blue skies and happy caching!

Elsie the Cow got to attend the Allen-Bradley Automation Fair with me at the Grand Ole Opry Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee yesterday and today. This hotel is amazing and huge. The interior is divided into four different, separate areas, each filled with live plants, waterfalls, fountains, shops, and restaurants. My co-workers and I made a little time during the convention to explore all four areas.

Unfortunately, I didn't find any geocaches big enough to accept travel bugs or geocoins on this trip so I guess this traveler will just have to come back to Mississippi with me. I'll try to release it to travel again soon.

Blue skies and happy caching!

  • The Grand Old Opry Hotel. This is the view of just part of the main area of the hotel as seen from the Convention Center at the hotel. My camera's lens wasn't wide enough to take it all in. This place is amazing! The roof is glass and the hotel is filled with live plants and walking paths. Note the stream running through the hotel. There is even a boat you can ride for a tour around the hotel.
  • A synchronized fountain at the hotel.
  • A couple of the many waterfalls in the hotel.
  • A rotating bar we stopped at to rest. It was a long walk, trying to see all the different areas in the hotel. We stopped here for a breather and a drink. While we sat, the bar slowly spun around. It had nothing to do with what we were drinking! Honest!
  • Outside the Opryland Hotel. This is just one of the four entrances to the expansive hotel.
  • Another view of the outside of this gigantic hotel

This traveler went on a business trip with me to Nashville, TN. We were there for two and a half days, attended the Allen-Bradley Automation Fair, learned a lot, and managed to have some fun too. We arrived at the Hilton Hotel late in the afternoon, walked to the nearby Hard Rock Cafe for supper, then went back out and hunted a few geocaches around 11:00pm. It sure was cold!

The next day we attended the Automation Fair at the beautiful Grand Ole Opry Hotel and Convention Center, then returned to downtown Nashville for an amazing catered dinner at the hotel followed by a Charlie Daniels Band concert at the historic Ryman Theater, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry. This traveler came along.

  • Winds of Change virtual geocache site. Hunting geocaches at 11:00pm on a cold night in downtown Nashville. Smart? Maybe not. Fun? Definitely!
  • Found another geocache on this pedestrian bridge. It was really beautiful (and cold!) walking across this bridge to hunt the cache.
  • Enjoying the morning view from my hotel room.
  • The Charlie Daniels Band in concert. This traveler and I attended the Charlie Daniels Band concert tonight at the historic Ryman Theater (the original home of the Grand Ole Opry) near our hotel.

What a rush! This traveler and I drove down to the Gold Coast Skydivers drop zone in Lumberton, Mississippi today and engaged in my favorite pasttime - jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. It was a great day for jumping, with clear skies, gentle wind, and cool temperatures. We made a couple of jumps out of the DZ's Twin Otter jump plane from 14,500 feet, enjoyed over a minute of freefall at 120 mph or more, popped the 'chute at 3,000 feet, and had about a five-minute ride down to a soft landing back at the DZ. Pack the chute and go again. The travel bugs and geocoins I took up with me stayed safe (relatively) in a zippered pouch attached to my skydive rig.

Now this traveler has tasted the beauty, freedom, and thrill of flight and knows why the birds sing.

Blue skies and happy caching!

  • TBs and GCs on my skydive rig, ready to jump! All these travel bugs and geocoins rode along with me up to 14,500 feet and bailed out of the airplane for a minute long freefall and a five minute parachute ride.
  • A couple of skydivers coming in for a soft landing
  • A tandem instructor and student prepare to land.
  • Elsie the Cow, safe and sound after a skydive.
  • Bugs on my rig after jump number 1. Now its time to pack this mess back up and go again!

This morning I got up early, loaded up the bicycle and this travel bug, and went to meet my Boy Scout troop for a 50-mile cycling trip. We're finishing up the Cycling merit badge, which is one of the ones required to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. I spent most of the ride with Terry, one of the scouts that is getting close to his Eagle rank and really needed to complete this bike ride. We rented a couple of recumbant bikes this time and let everyone spend some time on them during the ride. They sure made the ride easier. It was a nice, cool day and everyone worked hard, completed the ride, and had a lot of fun. I took several travel bugs and geocoins along and they rode in a hip pack strapped to the handle bars.

Blue skies and happy caching!

  • Model Citizen, the other Scoutmaster, and Terry. Terry is close to getting his Eagle Scout rank and needed to complete a 50-mile bike trip. It took us most of the day, but we got it done.
  • A bag full of travel bugs on the Longleaf Trace. We rode the Longleaf Trace Rails To Trails path in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for 50 miles today. Several travel bugs and geocoins rode along on the handlebars of one of the recumbent bikes.
