I Dropped Compass Rose Geocoin at a very neat spot on the West coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. I was staying nearby so I decided to walk from the Marriott Waikoloa to the cache. The cache page was right about needing good shoes to walk on this trail, I never would have made it all the way with my rubber slippers. It went through some pretty rugged lava fields especially at the end of the trail by the cache. There were some beautiful views North and South as I walked on the old Hawaiian coastal trail. I can see why the beach sand was tinted green, the lava rocks in this area are heavily studded with Olivines also know as Peridot. I passed the petroglyphs and as I came through one tough section of lava I spotted a lone palm and a green area in the lava. As I got closer I spotted the fresh water pond, it was beautiful and the water and rock colors made it look like a big Opal. I didn’t have much trouble finding the cache. I never would have seen this without the cache. I hope that the coin moves on soon from this oasis in the lava.
