Geocacher - Part of the Apprenticeship Series
There is no Apprenticeship for Geocachers so we will try to give a few pointers here.
Over the years we have met many new friends through Geocaching, most will go out of their way to help a fellow cacher. A few examples are how WhiteCloud65 and dhcma helped us when we first started. Then there is Bushshaun who filled up the Friendship Trail with all those caches for us to find, he has bailed us out finding some of those tough ones. And team mijojelweslandon for hosting our special event.
Another good example of how generous cachers are is we're evolutionary dropping off a full box load of caching supplies to help us make more caches.
There isn't enough room to mention everyone, but a big thank you to all who help out other cachers.
Many geocachers carry extra log sheets and baggies and drop them in caches where a log sheet may be full or damaged. All cache owners appreciate this very much.
If you can not find a cache you should log a DNF so the owner knows the cache may have gone missing, or the cache may still be there so don't post a needs maintenance tag for a DNF.
FTF is a fun part of the game, if you are a premium member make sure you go online and mark your notifications so you know the second a new cache is listed.
Puzzle caches can be harder to figure out the co-ords, but most cache owners will give extra hints to new cachers. Just ask.
We like to keep things fun for everyone, so Geocaching has few guidelines, we encourage everyone to follow:
Sign both the logbook and log your find online to get your smiley. Geocache owners love reading about your experience.
If you take a trinket from the geocache, leave something family-friendly of equal or greater value. Avoid placing food or scented items as these attract animals.
Be mindful of non-geocaching onlookers. Curious people have been known to take or damage geocaches. Make sure you don't accidentally venture on to someone's private property. Caches won't require you to trespass.
If you find a problematic cache, please contact the owner directly.
Leave the geocache area better than how you found it. Try not to disrupt local wildlife and pack out any trash you see.
Congratulations to RockHarder for FTF
