


Alberto Santos Dumont
The history of the national park begins in 1916, when Alberto Santos Dumont, the father of aviation and the actual founder of the park, traveled through Foz do Iguaçu. The area belonged to the Uruguayan Jesus Val. Santos Dumont lobbied the president of the state of Paraná, Afonso Camargo, to have the land expropriated and transferred to public ownership.
