The Birds of Crosswinds - A Geocache Series
This Geocache is one of a series of 12 geocaches that was launched in association with Crosswinds Marsh annual Hobby Day and Birds of Crosswinds Geocache event on August 21, 2021. Each of the cache containers has a unique code in the container cover. This code may be entered into an online form. If all of the 12 codes are correct the participant will be eligible for a commemorative collectable. To go to the form click HERE..
The theme of each geocache in the series will be that of one of the over 100 bird species that have been observed in Crosswinds.
Great Horned Owl: Easy to hear, but hard to see the Great Horned Owl is one of the most popular night creatures. With superior vision and even better hearing, it is the definition of a nighttime predator. These birds have fringed feathers which create soundless flight, making sneaking up on prey easy. Their eyes are cone shaped, meaning they can not move either eyes around as humans can; instead they are able to rotate their heads 180 degrees around, in both directions! Their feathers create the perfect camouflage with a collage of brown, white, and black stripes. Good luck siting them at any time of day!
