Mason-Dixon Line:
The historical Mason-Dixon Line was originally surveyed in the 1700’s by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in resolution of a long-running boundary dispute. At this location, you are standing along the 83 mile vertical boundary known as the “Tangent Line”, which connects the mid-point of the “Transpeninsular Line” (to your south) to its northern boundary.
While at this location, look northward (up the road) and you will notice that this area of the road runs straight-as-an-arrow as far as the eye can see. Delaware is on your right. Cross the road and you are in Maryland, hence the name of the road.
The "line" was last surveyed in 1902 and was found to be remarkably accurate.
PLEASE NOTE: The road is usually not busy, but please pull your vehicle safely onto the MARYLAND (southbound) side of the road before getting out. THE LOCAL DELAWARE PROPERTY OWNER HAS REQUESTED NO PARKING ON THE DELAWARE SIDE OF THE ROAD. Please respect his wishes.
BYOP and please replace the cache exactly where you found it.
Enjoy this historical "line".
Congratulations to THE POSTMAN for being the FTF.
