Geocache Description:

Thomasville History Series - First Presbyterian

This geocache is located in a beautiful park across the street from the Thomasville First Presbyterian Church. Parking is available along Dawson Street, DO NOT park on Jackson Street. The geocache shouldn’t be hard to find, leaving time to admire this Queen Anne/Romanesque Revival style church built in 1889.

**This geocache is identical to the geocache of the same name that was archived in late 2019. Even if you've found it before, feel free to come back - just know it is the same as before.**

In November 1853, a group of interested citizens met at Boxhall Plantation to organize Thomasville’s Presbyterian Church. The congregation met in various houses until a permanent location was constructed. In 1887, the land at the corner of Jackson and Dawson Streets was purchased for the purpose of building the church. The first service was held in the new sanctuary here in 1889.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower attended church here during several of his hunting and golfing trips to Thomasville.
