On the Briarcliff Peekskill Trailway, a relatively easy 20-25
minute walk to a pretty spot with an interesting inhabitant.
So named because the swamp is indeed pretty. The Pileated
Woodpecker I saw is better described as stunning. The name of this
spot just occurred to me and that’s just what I’m gonna
call it, regardless of what its real name may be. On the Briarcliff
Peekskill Trailway, I came upon this walkway over the swamp a bit
less than the halfway point between the parking area on Watch Hill
Rd. and Trailways Series 2. This little swamp so impressed me as I
passed it on my way from Traiway Series 1 to Trailway Series 2 that
on my way back I stopped here for over an hour, just enjoying the
woods, the water and the quiet. A few minutes into my stop, the
quiet was interrupted by the woodpecker’s call.

This is an image I glommed from the web, I wasn’t able to get
a good enough photo while I was there.
Look for this really outstanding looking fellow in the tall trees
on the north side of the walkway.
