This is a nice easy walk through a usually nice and quiet section
of the trail. Great for Beginners like us. Cache is a standard ammo
can.
This is a very nice area and the Honey Wolves love to go Pheasant Hunting near here. (The Honey Wolves are incapable of harming any living thing so they think that they are playing hide and seek withthe birds). I actually lost Katie (the good dog) for an hour last year here at sunset and it started raining. I almost went into a cardiac arrest over that situation.
The Larkin Bridle trail is a former railroad bed now owned and maintained by the State of Connecticut. It extends approximately 10 miles from Southbury to Naugatuck. The Rail line originally extended from Waterbury to Brewster New York. The large stone abutments that supported the
railroad bridge still remain in lake Zoar.
For this section of the trail you can park at a trail head on Christian Street or Hawley road both are close to the Oxford Airport.
Words of caution: From mid October to mid January there may be Pheasant hunters and their dogs (including the Honey Wolves) South of this section of the trail. There is no hunting allowed on the trail or on Sunday so if
that is a concern you can plan accordingly.
