Geocache Description:

The Settle Inn.

Established in 1733.

If you google "The Oldest Pub in Scotland" you will get this answer - The Clachan Inn on the Square in Drymen claims to be the oldest pub in Scotland - dating from 1734!
Ah well - now who is right? Is 1733 not older than 1734?

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action protest by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor.

In the late 17th Century Europeans developed a taste for tea. Boiling the water made this a safe beverage to drink. Prior to this the water was not sanitary and ale or claret was the normal drink. The Settle Inn would have been buzzing back then and you can almost imagine that atmosphere when you are here.

Wednesday night is folk night at the Settle if visitors want a bit of music.
