Old Mill Race Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

-DeRock-: Greetings,

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been disabled for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Thank you,

-DeRock-

Geocache Description:

A Walk back in the history of Dimondale. NOTE- COUNT THE STARS BEFORE HEADING OUT. THIS IS A DEFINATE 2.0

The "Old Mill Race" was a prosperous island way back in the days of water wheel power. There at one time was an Grist Mill. Several other water powered mechanical devices were used here also. There was even a fully functional Light House on the island to guide/warn boats of the mill race. As time went by the mill was taken down, The light house dismanteled, and the island was used as a popular park for families on a Sunday afternoon. You can still see an old maypole (kinda hard to find as it looks almost exactly as the trees!) The 9 hole star is still on the top of the pole and yes it still spins!! Take your time and wander about this really interesting part of history.

The Village of Dimondale has recently had the old washed out dam removed and there is now a "Wir" to guide the flow of the grand river. From the looks of things the wir will guide water AWAY fron the mill race path. So it is assumed that access to the island will be somewhat easy, but take heed, if there has been an significant rise in the river, water may actually flow back into the old race causing a need for boots. If you are adventurous you can access the island by canoe from Lion's park, or simply drive around and walk to the island over the large rocks that used to make up the bridge many years ago.

The cache is a drainage tile with 2 snuggly fitting ends on it. It may take a bit of work to pull one of the ends off.
Please return cache to its exact hiding place. Please remember this is a 3.5 star, If you feel that the rating should be changed, Please contact me and it will be re- evaluated!

The Dimondale Historical society will be made aware of this cache. If you have a Digital Camera and are willing, please take a picture of your self /team at the cache area and post it in the web so that people will know the island is alive again! Thanx, (PS , rumor has it that there is excellent fishing here)
