This Cache is dedicated to my ‘Gates’ Family History and is located at Gates Cove. This is the first view of Mahone Bay when entering Blandford. Here are the remains of the wharf where my Grandfather and other relatives fished and landed their catches. It was where we went to get our fresh fish for dinner. The wharf is slowly disappearing and should be avoided for safety sake. My cousin, who maintains a fish store here to keep the family tradition going, was active in seeing the Public Boat Launch was built. This means the Cove could remain for the people who wished to continue to enjoy it. You can sometimes see the local fishermen using it to tend to their boats. In the summer boaters can launch from here for a day on the water. Here also, from what I can recall, is Blandford’s first and only cement bridge. It too, like the wharf, has seen better days with the remnants of the ‘old’ road a mere memory. The Cove, with its combination rocky/sandy beach, is a sheltered swimming spot with a sandy bottom that is gradual and not too deep. There are plenty of Sand Dollars to search for, Mermaid Glass to find or just sit to enjoy the peace and then find my Cache. Be sure to sign the Log Book. Please be careful when opening and closing the Cache so that the water won’t get in. I hope you enjoy this place where a little bit of my ‘history’ did unfold. Thanks to eastriver and NS Southpaw for helping me with my 1st Cache process. NEW CONTAINER: PLEASE TWIST TOP AND DON'T PULL.
