This Coastal Path Series is intended to fill the gap between Llanrhystud and Borth. A steep climb up to Pen y Bwlch (top of the pass) on the Ceredigion Coastal Path rewards you with stunning views over Abersytwyth, the Ystwyth Valley and Cardigan Bay.
Parking is available at Tan y Bwlch beach N52 24.333 W004 05.368. Follow the stony track alongside the beach to the bottom of Allt Wen. If you are cycling you can ride all the way along and use the signs to secure your bike.
This cache is a little further along the Coastal Path from Allt Wen, where you begin the climb. For a longer walk along this trail you can continue south to Llanrhystud and find the caches Sadies View and Craiglas Limekilns. This will take about an hour.
If you wish to walk even further you will find Of Gorse You Can See the Sea, just south of Aberaeron.
Safety Notes: This trail involves steep climbs on grassy slopes which will be slippery during wet weather. Wear suitable boots or strong shoes with good grip. A waterproof might be useful.
This route is not suitable for children unless they are used to walking at high altitudes with steep-sided slopes. Use your own discretion before attempting.
There is no ice cream man up here, and no restaurant for a cup of tea, so you might like to bring a flask or a picnic depending on the weather. You will have earned a sit down by the time you get here.
The Ceredigion Coastal Path Series can also be combined with the Rainbow Series, the Violet, Red and Orange cache sites being visible from the top of Pen y Bwlch and Allt Wen.
The cache is a film canister, so only room for a small log book and pencil stub. Please bring your own pen if you prefer.
Happy Hunting!
