Geocache Description:

This multi-mystery cache is hidden on a walking trail in North Creek. The cache has a micro stage (a 2 cm dia. cylinder, 8 cm long), eight easy to find letter clues on signs, and a final stage (a 2 Liter cylindrical lock-n-lock). The 0.8K trail is smooth, mostly flat, and well marked. The final has trade items for kids and adults. Coordinates above are for the first stage micro.

In order to find this cache, you'll need to take a stroll on a lovely walking path (another great example of an Eagle Scout project) on the left bank of North Creek, in the town of North Creek, NY. Park in the big, newly-improved parking lot close to the micro and the first trail sign. Bring a copy of this cache description and a pen or pencil; you'll need them!

The coordinates at the top of the page are for the first stage micro. The micro is a unique cylindrical plastic container and it is well hidden. Inside you'll find a green wooden dowel inscribed with a nine-letter word that is near and dear to the hearts of all geocachers. This nine-letter word has no repeating letters; it is the key word to a double substitution code that turns the letter clues on the walking trail into numbers.

The first letter in the key word stands for 1, second letter = 2, etc., up to the ninth letter, which stands for 9. All the letters in the alphabet NOT found in the word are zeros.
For example, if the key word were BOYFRIEND (it's not), then B=1, O=2, Y=3, F=4, R=5, I=6, E=7, N=8, and D=9. All other letters would be equal to a zero. And so, if boyfriend was the key word, a coded phone number of B-NGJ-RRR-NEAI would translate as 1-800-555-8706.

The final stage is hidden at N43° 4?.&@#' W073° 5^.*!$'

The clues are all alongside the trail, found in order as follows:

? = the 12th letter on the metal sign at the start of the walking trail (see coordinates below).

& = the 18th letter on the brass plaque on the first red wooden bench on the trail.

@ = the 35th letter on the brass plaque on the second red wooden bench on the trail.

# = the 21st letter on the brass plaque on the third red wooden bench on the trail.

$ = the 26th letter on the brass plaque on the fourth red wooden bench on the trail.

! = the 4th letter on the brass plaque on the fifth red wooden bench on the trail.

* = the 23rd letter on the brass plaque on the sixth (and last) wooden bench at the end of the trail.

^ = the 18th letter on the brass plaque on the huge rock near the town beach across from the end of the trail. (see coordinate list below)

When you get all the letter clues, turn them into numbers using the key word, and plug the coordinates into your GPSr to find the final stage.

Good Luck!

SERIES DESCRIPTION
EVEN FALL is #8 in my Adirondack Seasonal Tourist series of multicaches. There will be 8 caches in this series (eventually). Each multicache consists of at least one micro that leads to one traditional sized container.

Each cache in this series is available year round for the finding. However, once every two years (when each cache is "in season") I place a unique, hand-made letterbox ink stamp in the final stage. THE EVEN FALL CACHE IS “IN SEASON” DURING FALL OF EVEN NUMBERED YEARS***, so if you can find the final stage between the Autumnal Equinox (23rd of September) the Winter Solstice (21st of December) you can collect a print from the EVEN FALL stamp. Once December 21st rolls around, that's it; I will remove the stamp from the final stage and it won't return until the next even fall (September 23rd, 2008). The ODD WINTER cache will then be in season.

***NOTE: DUE TO A DELAY IN REPORTING THIS CACHE, IT WILL REMAIN "IN SEASON" UNTIL NEW YEARS DAY, 2007. COLLECTORS HAVE UNTIL THEN TO FIND IT AND COLLECT THE STAMP.

You can use the stamps to commemorate each of your "in season" finds, and to get some prizes:

* the first person to send me a postcard or a letter with 2 stamps of the same season (both even and odd) will get a prize appropriate to that season. There are three of these prizes available (THE SPRING PRIZE HAS ALREADY BEEN CLAIMED).
* the first person to send me a postcard or a letter with 4 stamps, one for each season, gets a prize. You can mix and match odd and even year stamps for this one.
* the first person to send me a postcard or a letter with all 8 unique stamps on it will receive a framed commemorative drawing and dinner for two at a good local (i.e. near to me) restaurant.

Send me an e-mail for the postal address once you've accumulated enough stamps. In order to spread the wealth, the small prizes are limited to one per person.
