About this cache: This Cache is at the base of the Second highest point in the State of Arkansas. I picked this spot because Arkansas, being the Natural State, it seemed only right to place it in one of our many state parks and this one is the most centrally located.
Pinnacle Mountain is a day-use park dedicated to environmental education, recreation, and preservation. Located just west of Little Rock, this natural environment was set aside in 1977 as Arkansas's first state park adjoining a major metropolitan area. Operating as a day-use only park, Pinnacle Mountain is dedicated to preservation, recreation, and environmental education. Park interpreters and volunteers help visitors and students understand man's relationship to the environment in the 2,000-acre park that offers a rich diversity of natural habitat.
The park's dominant natural feature, Pinnacle Mountain, rises more than a thousand feet above the Arkansas River Valley. The mountain's cone-shaped peak has long been a central Arkansas landmark. Two of the park's hiking trails lead hikers to the mountain's summit. To see the panoramic view from atop Pinnacle Mountain, visit the virtual tour featured online in the hiking section of the website featuring Arkansas's adventure state parks at: http://www.adventurestateparks.com/hiking
Besides being a great and beautiful location, this cache is along one of the parks easiest trails. But, for the more advanced hikers this caches also completes a 3 cache cycles of the Pinnacle Mountain consisting of (GCWP97) Pinnacle East and (GCWP8X) Pinnacle West. These two Caches are along the two face trails up Pinnacle Mountain, and unless you plan on climbing over the mountain again the only way back to your car is along the Base Trail and past this Cache.
There are also 3 other Caches along some of the other trails this park, for more information on Pinnacle State Park click Here
This Cache is a small ammo box hidden near to the trail. So be aware of other hikers. I placed this one in a less frequently used part of the trail, but beware of muggles coming along the trail. The Park Rangers know of this cache and have approved of it giving it Permit #PT-42-06. The Ranger only asks that we, as geocachers, respect the trails and try to avoid creating "social" trails whenever possible. As always please re-hide exactly as you found it (please be sure it can not be seen by casual viewers along the Trail)
There is parking at each of the Base Trails Trailheads. The East Pinnacle parking is the least used and closest, but the West Pinnacle parking has Facilities like Bathrooms, a Playground, and Picnic tables. Both have water fountains.
