This cache is a singular cache that can be done on its own or as
part of a larger series of caches that make up "The Twelve Labors
of Hercules"
Hercules is the Roman name for greatest hero in Greek mythology.
Like most authentic heroes, Hercules had a god as one of his
parents. Hercules was the son of the supreme deity Zeus and a
mortal woman. As Hercules was growing up he was a victim of a
number jealous attacks and antagonisms that eventually led him to
kill his own children. To atone for his crime, he was sentenced to
perform a series of tasks, or "Labors", for his cousin Eurystheus,
the king of Tiryns and Mycenae.
Labor Four: the Erymanthian
Boar
The fourth Labor took Heracles back to Arcadia in quest of an
enormous boar, which he was challenged to bring back alive. While
tracking it down he stopped to visit the centaur Pholus. This
creature -- half-horse, half-man -- was examining one of the hero's
arrows when he accidentally dropped it on his foot. Because it had
been soaked in poisonous Hydra venom, Pholus succumbed immediately.
Heracles finally located the boar on Mount Erymanthus and managed
to drive it into a snowbank, immobilizing it. Flinging it up onto
his shoulder, he carried it back to Eurystheus, who cowered as
usual in his storage jar.
... and now onto the cache.
The cache is hidden at the top of Carrizo Peak.
Carrizo Peak is a few miles N-NE of Carrizozo and is a prominent
landmark in the area, but is often overshadowed by the nearby
Capitan Mountains and Sierra Blanca. It offers a wonderful "sky
island" ecosystem and plenty of solitude. The hike to the cache
will be roughly 10 miles roundtrip and will require an elevation
gain of ~2800 feet. Detailed information regarding trailhead
directions and route information can be found at:

*** When you find the cache be sure to write down the three digit
code inside the front cover of the log book. That code will be
needed to find the final cache in the series. ***
