The Cache is found in Fowl Meadow which starts at Paul’s Bridge
(National Resgister of Historic Places Structure #72000140), built
around 1700. It is part of the Blue Hills Reservation and is used
for hiking, nature observing, dog walking, mountain biking, and
canoeing.
This area was almost paved over in the 1970’s to extend
Interstate 95 into downtown Boston.
Paul’s Bridge is at the trailhead at these coordinates N 42
14.013 W 071 07.348. You will find parking and a canoe landing.
There is a soccer field across the road where you can picnic or
throw a Frisbee after your hunt for the cache.
The area is rich in historical and archeological resources that
date from colonial times back 10,000 years to the Paleo Indian
Period. Keep your eyes open. Who knows you might see a ghost or two
along the Colonial and Native American trails as you search for the
cache.
Bring your camera, binoculars, and field guide books for this
area is a rich area for migratory birds and contains 13 rare
species of plant and animal including the Blue Spotted Salamander
and Least Bittern.
NO motorized vehicles allowed. The cache is a large ammo can.
Some trails are slightly over grown. Tick and Mosquito proof
yourself before heading out on the trail. This is a wetland with
raised walking trails that can be submerged or muddy during the
spring or after an extended period of rain. Have fun as you
experience a wetland ecosystem and post your pics.
