Fowl Meadow Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ride The Heights: This Cache had a 5 year run. Hope everyone had fun. Money is tight. Don't have a weighted ammo box to keep from moving during the spring floods, so I am archiving this cache.

Geocache Description:

The Fowl Meadow Cache is accessible by canoe, hiking, or biking. Fowl Meadow is an 8-mile long wetland area along the banks of the Neponset River, which contains diverse habitats of plant and animal communities. “It has been called one of the most significant wetlands in the metropolitan Boston area.”

The Cache is found in Fowl Meadow which starts at Paul’s Bridge (National Resgister of Historic Places Structure #72000140), built around 1700. It is part of the Blue Hills Reservation and is used for hiking, nature observing, dog walking, mountain biking, and canoeing.

This area was almost paved over in the 1970’s to extend Interstate 95 into downtown Boston.

Paul’s Bridge is at the trailhead at these coordinates N 42 14.013 W 071 07.348. You will find parking and a canoe landing. There is a soccer field across the road where you can picnic or throw a Frisbee after your hunt for the cache.

The area is rich in historical and archeological resources that date from colonial times back 10,000 years to the Paleo Indian Period. Keep your eyes open. Who knows you might see a ghost or two along the Colonial and Native American trails as you search for the cache.

Bring your camera, binoculars, and field guide books for this area is a rich area for migratory birds and contains 13 rare species of plant and animal including the Blue Spotted Salamander and Least Bittern.

NO motorized vehicles allowed. The cache is a large ammo can. Some trails are slightly over grown. Tick and Mosquito proof yourself before heading out on the trail. This is a wetland with raised walking trails that can be submerged or muddy during the spring or after an extended period of rain. Have fun as you experience a wetland ecosystem and post your pics.

"This cache I dedicate to my niece (Ragoo) who loves adventure."
