Geocache Description:

During the construction of Trussville's Cahaba Village, a WPA housing project of the Roosevelt "New Deal" administration in the 1930's, this old stone bridge was built at the request of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. During a goodwill visit to Trussville and Birmingham, she was struck by the beauty of the Cahaba River and asked that a bridge be built so that people would have a way to cross the river.

At the time, there was nothing but woods on the other side because the nearby hillside was deemed to be too rocky for development. The residential area you see on Cherokee Drive now was built many years later. It seems that even then, the government was funding "bridges to nowhere."

NOTE: This cache was originally called One Degree of Separation: Scooter Bill, but was changed to reflect the history of the area.
