Rooted - Banyan
by
HawMorFords
The Rooted Series is a series of
geocaches dedicated to a few very special trees in and around
Brisbane.
Each tree in the series is a lonely but spectacular
specimen that dominates it's surroundings and in most cases, is a
direct result of considerable conservation efforts.
As these caches are often in very public areas,
please time your efforts appropriately and ensure you replace the
cache carefully and camouflage it as you found it or
better.
Thank you.
This Banyan Fig tree (Ficus virens) is Queensland's oldest
Banyan Tree and is right next door Queensland's oldest licensed
Pub! It occupies an ever-growing part of the pub's staff car
park and is a well known part of Cleveland's history.
The massive root system of the beautiful tree
extends onto the footpath and this is where the cache has been
placed - there is NO reason to enter the car park (which is private
property!).
Also, be aware that this cache is in a very exposed
position - it is even lit up at night! But, if you bide your
time, and exercise some discretion, extracting the cache should be
fairly straight forward.
The cache is a small 'Tupperware' style container
and is suitable for small swaps only.
Please take the time to enjoy this remarkable
tree.
