Geocache Description:

Rib Mountain Rendezvous 2006

Saturday, August 26th- 4:00-7:00PM .

It's time the Central Wisconsin area had a geocaching event of some type.

Having never attended any event other than a CITO event this spring we're not sure of exactly what to do or how to set up this event. We're going to set up a simple meet and greet cookout for Saturday afternoon/ evening. This will open up the possibility for folks to add whatever they’d like to this event.

Want to camp? Rib is a great place and there are campsites available (as of 7/15).

Want to team up with some other cachers in the morning to attempt one of the toughest caches in Wisconsin- “ The Three Bad Ribs”? Plenty of time to organize it for the morning or early afternoon.

The Wausau area has tripled the number of available caches in the last year so you could spend the day searching for them. The Mountain-Bay bike trail has a number of caches available if you'd like to get in some biking. The event itself will be from 4:00- 7:00 and we’ll be getting together for a cookout on the top of the Rib Mountain. State Park entry fees will apply.

Update: 8/14/06

After looking at the WGA Picnic it appears that we can just follow some of what is happening there:

- Event starts at 4:00 PM and we will have the grills ready to go at 5:00 PM.

- This is a family event, and all participants are requested to act accordingly. (I don't know, the WGA page states this so some folks must not act accordingly??)

- No pets are allowed in the picnic area (this is a State Park regulation from their web site) but pets are allowed on leash on most trails and at the camping area.

- This event will be held rain or shine. There is one "first come first served" shelter near the parking area and we plan to get there early in an attempt to use it. If there is no threat of rain or the shelter is in use we will set up in the regular picnic area. Heavy thunderstorms may be another matter at the top of Rib.

- What to bring for the picnic: Team One Paddle Short will provide brats, burgers, and a cooler full of soda for as many as are signed up. If you haven't signed up or would like something other than a brat or burger please bring your own. We will have one gas grill and there is one charcoal grill near the shelter. If everyone would bring one food item to share it would make for a great picnic. Bring a lawn chair in case we run out of room at the two large picnic tables.

- To ensure we get a variety of foods, please bring an item based on your last name, as shown below:

Last Name A-G: salad, friut, and /or vegetables

Last Name H-P: chips, pretzels, and /or snacks

Last Name Q-Z: Cookies or dessert

--------------------------------------------------------

There are several suggestions for things to do during Saturday morning and afternoon before the picnic.

- Timberline Echoes are bravely going to attempt "Sandhill Wetland" and are looking for folks foolish/ brave enough to go with them.

- There is interest in doing "The Three Bad Ribs" so perhaps a group could join up for this one?

-Knoozer has generously offered a bunch of canoes for doing some of the paddle caches in the area! Anyone interested in getting some caches on the water just post a note on this page so a plan can be made.

-Also, I will be bringing a laptop with GSAK and a Palm with Cachemate for anyone who'd like to see what paperless caching is about. Perhaps someone will be able to share some GSAK tricks with me too!

- Finally, a few are going to camp on Rib Saturday night so bring your tent and stay longer!

Anything else just contact One Paddle Short and we'll try to get it handled. :)
