Geocache Description:

Way off the beaten path but a fantastic view and a lot of history here.

Hayrick, named by early settelers because of the shape of nearby Hayrick Mountain, was the original Coke county seat and was a "booming" little community. Settled around 1865, there are some very interesting grave markers here. A lot of the original ones are gone and have been replaced but a few are still here. An interesting book by Jewell G. Pritchett titled "From the Top of Old Hayrick" narrates the history of the area.
It is a caliche road when you turn off the highway and can be slippery when wet. Otherwise it is hardpacked and rough in spots but passable in a car but drive slow.
The cache is a decon container and is NOT inside the fenced area of the cemetery, but visitors here may open the unlocked gate and drive inside and look around. Please close it when you leave.
Contents of cache are log book and several small items.
