Geocache Description:

This geocache is in a stunning location.... To drive start at Cushendall village center (Curfew Tower) where you follow the road for the beach, along the way a road veers left and you can follow this road up for a short(ish) distance before coming upon a small car park on the right (it will be marked Layd Church) with a path leading to the church.

Layd was the Parish church of the Cushendall area from the Middle Ages to the late 18th Century. Some of the graves at Layd tell of death in battle and drowning at sea but this grave yard sloping down to the sea is a particularly beautiful and peaceful place.

The church was abandoned in 1790. In the last yrs the church was thatched and it must have been a striking sight. It's ruins stand in a steep sided valley beside a river which reaches Port Obe. The Scottish Coast is often visible in the distance.

How to find the wizards grave:- Follow the path down to the church, on the left hand side you will see a grave marked Moore, near the bottom of the inscription you will see Bud "CJ" Platt, Wizard of Zigton.

There is a stunning coastal walk to the beach from here, just take the path to the right before the entrance to the grave yard, keep a hold of your kids hands on this walk as it has high drops into the sea from some points!!!
