This is one of the Shealor Lakes (I call it Shealor 2) that's an
easy-moderate hike from the trailhead coordinates. There is a trail
to "Shealor 2" but I'm not sure exactly how long it is. When the
cache was placed, it was done on snowshoes so we took the
straightest line we could find in the snow. The return trip we
looped around to the south a bit for a slight change of scenery
(even though that way felt even shorter) and the entire round trip
was about 3.5 miles.
This is a very pretty lake and some pretty spectacular falls
coming into it. I was amazed at how much water was dumping into
this tiny lake. It seemed to be coming from everywhere, and a lot
of it cascading down granite slabs. I think anyone who makes the
trip will truly enjoy it.
This cache is listed as available year round, but if you are
going into the back country in the winter please be aware of
avalanche conditions. If you are unsure if avalanche conditions
exist, you probably shouldn't be attempting it. This link
may help.
For "extra credit", have your
picture taken at the base of the main falls (waypoint listed
below). I would have placed the cache there (esp if it was up to
3-carver ) but I didn't want to force anyone
to cross the creek at the lake outlet. Please don't attempt it
if you don't feel it's safe.
Terrain is rated for winter time including the
"extra credit" portion.
Summer time trek should be significantly easier.
Thanks to 3-carver for beta-testing it with me. Actually it was
more like he placed it and I beta tested it . Anyway, enjoy your trip. I'm sure
you will. And take lots of pictures!
