While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever. Due to lack of response from the owner, this cache listing is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location.

If it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible. If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

Geocache Description:

Micro cache located near Ilatrappen in Oslo

The Ila steps ("Ilatrappen") is part of the Ila complex. Dating from 1924-30, this was the last of the major city sponsored housing projects in Oslo. The complex was designed in strict 1920s classicism, with an almost complete lack of ornamentation and decorations. The steps take up a central place in the complex.

The steps themselves are inspired by the Spanish Steps in Rome. On the wall over the top of the steps you can see the coat of arms of the Barberini family, whose most notable member was the pope Urbanus VIII. The steps were designed by the architect Harald Hals, who also planned successful projects like Ullevål Hageby and the Torshov complex.

The above coordinates does not point to the cache, instead they will lead you to the bottom of the steps. To find the real cache location you must solve the following:

 • At the bottom of the steps there are two sculptures. Number of letters in the artist's name (first and last) = A
 • Walking up the steps you approach the sculpture of a bear. Year on the plaque (4 digits) = B
 • Walking up the steps you will see the Barberini coat of arms on the wall above you. Number of animals (insects) inside the shield = C

The cache is located at N59 55.(101*A)+C E10 44.(B-1000)+(C*C)

Step B is currently unavailable, use the value 1954

Parking in the area might be possible, but difficult. There are several bus lines (21, 33, 34, 54) stopping at nearby Alexander Kiellands plass.

The area is really crowded, both by people waiting on the bus stop, and by people from nearby a rehabilitation project. Stealth is required in order to approach the cache unnoticed.
