Geocache Description:

Take a wander through Oakham, the principle town of Rutland, England’s smallest county, enjoying all it has to offer in such a small area. No wonder the county’s motto is "multum in parvo" (so much in so little). One of the highlights of the town is its castle. Although all that remains is its hall, tradition states that every peer of the realm visiting the town must forfeit a horseshoe, and over 400 of these are on display there, so it is well worth a visit.

The coordinates given indicate the first clue which can be found below.

Car parking can be found at the following pay and display car parks:

Burley Road - N 52° 40.219 W 0° 43.552

Church Street - N 52° 40.268 W 0° 43.757

Mill Street - N 52° 40.074 W 0° 43.661

South Street - N 52° 40.067 W 0° 43.598

Westgate - N 52° 40.198 W 0° 44.006

The cache itself is approximately half a mile from the final waypoint along a public footpath on the outskirts of Oakham and is located at the following coordinates:

N 52° 39.AFC W 000° 43.BED

With the bypass having been completed in January 2007 you can now take a circular walk from the final clue, so it doesn't matter if you set off in the wrong direction as you won't need to backtrack. The circular route is probably about a mile, though we haven't measured it.

The clues to decipher the final coordinates can be done in any order but the order listed below follows a logical route through the town. It should take you an hour or two at most to do. The final cache is a small plastic container measuring 16 x 10 x 4 cm with the geocaching markings.
