Turn Right at the Station Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Write and Mane: No sign of clue for VC1 returning, construction work currently prevents use of the logical route to the cache and, being a cache that gets few visits anyway, decided to archive.
Picked up cache - well hidden, dry and well stocked: wouldn't you know it!

Geocache Description:

First released for the Geocaching Event at Parc Cwm Darran on 29/04/06. A two stage multicache, where the answer to a clue at the first virtual cache will provide the coordinates for the second regular cache, in a medium sized plastic container. Apart from the last 150 yards, the route is mainly flat and on good surfaces. Expect to walk about 2 miles with 150 feet of ascent.

The cache is in the southern, less frequented, part of Parc Cwm Darran, which extends over about 3 miles of the Nant Bargod Rhymni Valley and was created when the sites of the Ogilvie and Groesfaen Collieries were reclaimed about 25 years ago.

The starting point is in the village of Deri (oak, in English) and it is possible to follow the cycle route on the track bed of the former railway for most of the way. If you are observant, you will understand how the cache got its name. It is easy to add a bit of variety to the return journey, by diverting onto a near parallel path closer to the river.

This multicache has two stages, but it should be possible to complete these in an hour. Waypoints for a suggested parking place (FOR EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS ONLY) and the two stages are tabled below. On weekdays, nearby street parking is usually possible.

At the first virtual cache (VC1), you will see an image that is symbolic of the name of the village. There is a commemoration, too, of an event that started and finished in the same month … but not the same year!
Convert the name of this month into a series of numbers, using a mobile telephone keypad (for example, k = 5).

The final regular cache (RC2) is at N51 4A.BC4 W003 1C.DC7, where:
A = second number of series derived at VC1 divided by fourth number of series
B = A plus third number of series
C = A plus fifth number of series
D = first number of series divided by second number of series
