Tilbury's Historic Dashwheel Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wailing Moosehead: It is with regret that I must confirm that this cache has been plundered. Stage 1's hiding location has been removed by Municipal Forces. Stage 2 remains intact, if faded ("Caution Deep Hole"), on the side of the Dashwheel itself. Stage 3 was in perfect condition and still at the prescribed coordinates. Stage 4, as suggested by the previous cacher, was nothing more than a logbook left to the elements where once an ammo box had laid hidden.

Walking around the park yesterday, I realized that the town has put a lot of effort into it since I first placed this cache. Crushed gravel trails have taken the place of the soggy fields, descriptive signs educate visitors, and the Memorial Forest is taking shape.

Leaving the park, I was stunned to see trees literally teeming with butterflies -- you'd think you were at Pt. Pelee!

Thanks to everyone who visited this cache over the years. I'm sorry that Some Peoples' Kids just couldn't leave well enough alone for others to enjoy.

Geocache Description:

A multi-cache (with a puzzle component) within Tilbury's Northside Park

Northside Park in Tilbury is a (mostly) green oasis tucked between industry and a superhighway. Beyond the recent addition of an optimistically named memorial “forest”, the park’s main feature is its historic dashwheel. (The dashwheel, incidentally, is almost never mentioned without the “historic” tag. Based on what I’ve been able to learn, exactly why it’s historic doesn’t seem as important as continually emphasizing that it is.) Originally designed to transfer hydrokinetic energy, there it sits, now completely landlocked and utterly useless.

Stage #1: A camoflaged micro at the coordinates given above. In it, you'll find information needed to find a subsequent stage. (NOTE: I've included a few "grab-and-go" copies of the info, but you may want to take some paper with you in case they're all gone and you need to transcribe the instructions.)

Stage #2: A virtual cache.

Stage #3: Another camoflaged micro, this time at coordinates N42° 16.ABC' W082° 26.DEF'. It is not necessary to remove this stage from its hiding spot to extract the information you need.

Stage #4: The ammo box cache itself.

FIRST TO FIND: Team Namthcof and Hard Oiler.

Finally, a couple of requests and reminders:

  • Private property is private. Don't go there.
  • Superhighways are dangerous (and illegal) places to park and/or walk. Don't go there, either.
  • Please respect the effort that went into creating this cache and trade fairly.
  • Please replace all cache stages just as you found them.
  • Have fun, and remember, it's a historic dashwheel!
