Geocache Description:

“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just a year and a half, the quest has grown to over three hundred thirty caches hidden in thirty-three Indiana counties, and two Ohio counties, and the hiders have grown to sixteen cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 700 cacher teams have logged over 8,000 finds. One cache machine found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #368

"Simpson Cemetery"

WELCOME TO Simpson Cemetery, located on the east side of 450 W., about 1.5 miles northwest of Providence. The landscaping appears to be fairly well-kept; most of the stones are legible, and some have been replaced. One appears to have broken off and crumbled.

There is a parking space on a steep hill next to the gate. (I would suggest approaching from the south if you have a car or other low-clearance vehicle.)

Charles N. Smith fought with the 33rd Indiana Infantry under the command of Colonel John Coburn. This unit helped defend against the Confederates in the Battle of Camp Wildcat on October 21, 1861 near London, KY. Camp Wildcat is the site of the first engagement of regular troops in Kentucky during the Civil War. The battle began around 9 a.m. and lasted throughout the day, ending with a Confederate retreat and a loss of only four Union men and eleven Confederates. However, the 33rd lost at least 50 men to disease in the weeks following the battle.
FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!

The cache container is a landscaping-type container that is somewhat out of place. BYOP. .The cache is not located near a grave... If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
