Geocache Description:

Located in the Leonard Preserve in Manchester and Sharon Twps. Cache has been placed approx. 3/10 of a mile from the parking area along a marked(yellow flags), undeveloped foot trail and off a two lane further into the preserve. When entering the park, DO NOT drive past the parking lot as it does become private property at the gate (which may or may not be closed). Once trails are developed here in the fall, the hike to the cache may become easier. Until then, bushwacking will be required.

The cache, which is a 2-3 foot length of PVC pipe is painted green to blend in with its related habitat. The pipe is large enough to hold many items. Included in the cache initially is a Log Book with pens/pencil, a BS Patch, several small plastic toys, A Chicago City Map, a Toledo Mud Hens clapper, and the "Hemi the GeoPuppy" Travel Bug.

Although the cache is a great find here, an even greater find is the beauty of the area. Preserve the area and respect the land, trails, and the native wildlife. I would strongly encouage you to bring your camera on this hike. My morning and evening walks in this area often kick up countless white tail deer, geese, ducks, wild turkeys, and many squirels. There is so much here to admire and take in. To simply state, this area is beautiful !!! Please help take care of it.

The Preserve is open to the public but means of access are under development, currently. It is the objective of WCPARC to provide signage, fencing (limited) and a small gravel parking lot adjacent to the major road bordering each natural area. Low impact trails will be developed at all preserves, in most cases by improving existing trails or “cow-paths” or modifying farm lanes, etc. All of the natural areas are adjacent to or contain active agricultural land. Visitors are expected to stay out of cultivated areas, fenced off or not. In addition visitors are requested to take any trash home. The following are restrictions established to safeguard the plant and animal communities which inhabit these ecologically fragile natural areas. For their protection please do not:

Bring a pet
Camp or make fires
Hunt or fish
Snowmobile
Take vehicles past the parking lot
Remove any plants or animals

Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Comission Natural areas are open from dawn to dusk daily.
