PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DISCRIPTION BEFORE HEADING OUT TO FIND ANY CACHES IN THIS SERIES!
Several years ago, "the powers that be" at the University got on a binge and began naming streets after athletic coaches/stars from various sports. The first was Johnny Majors Dr., then came Pat Head Summitt St., and on and on.
Most of the venues are named after male coaches/athletes, but there are two named after women. One after Pat Summitt and one after Chamique Holdsclaw.
In case you don't follow Lady Vols basketball, Chamique was/is, up to this point, the most decorated basketball athlete to ever pass through the doors of the Lady Vol program.
Well, the kicker is the part of the street they gave for Chamique's namesake has no buildings, no addresses, and is over grown. The only physical thing on this part of the street is a small fenced in electric plant. Because of where this street is located, there will probably never be anything else except what is here now.
It's not even in front of Thompson-Boling Arena, where Chamique played out her days as a Lady Vol!
All the other athletic named streets (except Chamique's) are at least in front of or beside something that has to do with where the athlete played or coached.
Pat Summitt St. runs along the west side of Stokley Athletic Center where the Lady Vols played their homegames at one time, Todd Helton St. runs along the outfield side of the baseball stadium where the home baseball games are played, Johnny Majors Dr is in front of the football practice complex, Peyton Manning Pass is the street that the Vol football team walks each Saturday before the football game, Tee Martin St. is a small side street that leads underneath the football stadium, and Phillip Fulmer Way follows all the way from one end of the football stadium, around to join up with Chamique Holdsclaw, on the other side of Thompson-Boling Arena.
They should have at least given her the part of Phillip Fulmer Way that starts at Tee Martin St, passes in front of the Arena, and ends up at Lake Loudon Dr.
Instead, she is religated to a stretch of pavement that really has no significance nor potential to ever be anything but an overgrown back lot.
So I thought I'd at least give her a little recognition and put a cache here on her side of the corner.
DO NOT park in any of the Staff or Commuter parking lots if you come before 5pm, M-f. You WILL get a ticket. (trust me on this, I used to be a ticket writer here and them people is vicious!)
If you come after 5pm on a weekday, during school breaks, or on the weekends, you may park in any commuter or staff lot, unless otherwise posted, or an event/home football game is going on.
Feel free to email us prior to your arrival and we will be happy to give you advise on where to park
If you come up empty, post a DNF, then email me for a hint.
