Clara's Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Graculus: This cache has been unavailable for some time. Rather than keep it temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it.
I note you are planning to replace it so if/when you do I'll gladly un-archive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.
If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

This cache is situated on the beach at Pevensey Bay - Britain's most vulnerable point and the site of its last successful invasion, only 939 years ago.

Pevensey Bay - perhaps the landing point of Julius Caesar (although a few spots contend for that honour) certainly the landing point of William of Caen (the landing at "Pevensey" is found in the Bayeux tapestry, although the beach was further back then).

Napoleon would have loved to have stepped ashore here (from the cache site you can see a number of Martello towers used to disuade him in respect of this ambition) as would have Adolph Hitler (boo). For one reason and another (Nelson, the RAF, lots of Americans and Russians, etc) neither of those two ever made it (hooray).

Now a splendid pebble beach occupied by nothing more threatening than the odd fisherman and wind surfer, the cache is not far from the village of Pevensey Bay and should not be too hard to find if you trust in your equipment (there is no overhead cover to disrupt the signals). We recommend the fish and chip shop in the village and the Castle Inn. If you have time, check out Pevensey Castle (where William I spent his first night in England).

The cache is stocked with items relating to the sea and Clara would be most obliged if your swappies were similarly themed. Good hunting.

PLEASE NOTE - WINTER 2006/7. THIS CACHE IS CURRENTLY BURIED SOME 2 TO 3 FEET UNDER THE SHINGLE ON THE BEACH, DUE TO SEA DEFENCE WORK. BRING A SPADE!
