Geocache Description:

Located close to Bellingrath Gardens.

Several of us Mobile geocachers have gotten together to create this “Tour of Mobile.” All of these caches are designed to take you on a tour to some of the places in Mobile that we think you will enjoy. You should be able to find all of these caches in one day. We hope that you enjoy them.

Bellingrath Gardens
This cache is located close to the Picnic area outside of the entrance. It is better to access it from the road that heades towards the Southern Belle. When driving toward the entrance follow the signs pointing toward the Southern Belle. Use your gps to tell you when to pull over on the side of the road. Be sure to cover the cache back up better than you found it.

In April of 1932 Walter and Bessie Bellingrath invited a national garden club to come out and visit “Bellecamp.” They let it be know that the next day anyone that wanted to drive down and see the blooms would be welcomed. Walter and Bessie were astounded at the public’s interest in their garden. This encouraged the Bellingraths to open their newly named “Bellingrath Gardens” on a permanent basis.

Three years later, the Bellingrath’s home was completed. In 1956, after Walter’s death, the home was opened to the public as well. Since then people have come from all over the world to enjoy the gardens and house

Just visiting once is not enough. You should visit during all 4 seasons (and at Christmas) so that you can see everything that the gardens have to offer. Each season brings different plants into bloom. The wonderful staff here work very hard to make sure that no matter when you visit, you will have plenty of beautiful flowers to see.
I hope that you will go in and see for yourself.

I have provided some pictures for you in the cache so that you may get a glimpse of what I see when I visit the gardens. I hope you enjoy them.
(Please leave the photos in the cache container so that the next visitor my be able to enjoy them as well.)
