Short hike, but at 10700 ft, on a well maintained trail from a picnic ground. Objective is the view and some history. In season, beautiful flowers, brook trout surfacing in a lake, marmots in the rocks.
The primary cache is a green .50 caliber ammo can, initially loaded with "Wyoming stuff," including some location appropriate history from 50 years ago. This cache is achievable by anyone comfortable with hiking a short distance at elevation. An entirely optional second leg of the site (described in the log book) is only for the confident, accomplished hiker/climber. The "dangerous shortcut" describes the history, of interest to everyone. The optional second step could prove dangerous, caution to the curious.
Note to USGS Quad users: the USFS trail leading to the vicinity of this cache has been moved significantly to the west, lower into the drainage. Trust the coordinates.
