Reason For Becoming a Lost
Town: As the town of Houghton Lake and Edna
(currently Prudenville) spread along the new road,
M55, homes and businesses alike spread along the
south shores of Houghton Lake. In earlier days, Edna was the
only connection to the rails road that came near Houghton Lake.
Town History:
Houghton Lake Heights was billed as a high end vacation retreat in
the early 1900s. Once know as a fishing and hunting
destination, it once bustling vacation spot. As the
surrounding towns grew, people moved throughout the lake.
Most of the buildings and house are still from the boom
days. Business slowed to a trickle &
most businesses have struggled in the Heights, with most of them
either closing or moving out closer to M55
