Geocache Description:

This puzzle cache is located in the Pierpont Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary in Dudley, MA. The sanctuary is a special piece of land that is maintained by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Take a tour on the quarter-mile trail to learn about the farm fields on this site and their associated wildlife. Look for wildlife ranging from snakes to coyotes in the field and forest, as well as in Pierpont Meadow Pond. A great cache for kids and adults who love nature and wildlife.

For animal lovers only! This is an animal themed cache for those of us who can’t live without our four legged (or winged) friends. This cache is located on trails that are open every day from dawn to dusk. Unfortunately, you can’t bring your four legged friend with you though-he (or she) might scare away some of the wildlife.

The coordinates above are for parking only! In order to get the cache coordinates, you must first solve the puzzle, which requires that you pick up clues along the way (these are in order of how you will find them):

A=Number of parking stones
B=Reference number of the adult snapping turtle on the information kiosk brochure posted
C=Number of strands of power lines crossing the first meadow on the right
D=Number of letters in the first name of the first trail you come to in the woods
E=When you stop at the sign for D, determine the number of tree trunks on a large pine that are merged together at the base (look over your right shoulder to find the tree cluster in question)
F=Number of blue reflectors that are on the first tree to mark the trail
G=Number of dogs allowed in sanctuary
H=D-F
J=B-E
K=A-C

The coordinates are: N 42° GA.HJK W 071°EA.HEA. The actual cache is less than 15’ from the trail and care should be taken not to disturb the area. The wildlife thanks you.

This sanctuary is open to the public, and free to the members of the Massachusetts Audubon Society whose mission it is to protect the natural areas of Massachusetts and to ensure that they are truly protected. Fees to get on the trails are $3 for non-member adults and $2 for non-member children and seniors. Your ‘donation’ can be deposited in the box at the start of the trailhead (by the kiosk).

Warning: Bug Spray is a must and GPS readings will be difficult due to the tree cover at times.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

Directions if you are not familiar with the area:
Follow Route I-395 to exit 4B and head towards Oxford Center. At the traffic light in Oxford Center, go straight on Charlton Road. Follow Charlton Road for 0.7 miles and take a left onto Dudley Road. Go approximately 3 miles and take a right onto Marsh Road; The Sanctuary is 1/4 mile ahead on your left.
