These caches are on the Dark Side of the Moon (DSoM). Sometimes
caches are not the park and grab type. They are caches that need
planning, preparing, studying. These dark side of the moon caches
may be safer attempted with fellow cachers.
Cachers should be forewarned to bring lots of water, insect
repellent, and sunscreen for the sun and poison ivy. There is no
shade on parts of the long walks.
The terrain rates from a 1.5 to a 3 with a rough estimate of a 3
mile round trip hike to complete all 10 of the Dark Side of the
Moon caches. All caches are regular size with trade items along
with logbooks.
We hid these DSoM caches during three visits taking a total of
five hours. (About near kilt us!) We saw no snakes but lots of
bikers. There are some DORBA trails in the area and they do a good
job of maintaining them and sometimes frown upon hikers on their
trails. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO USE ANY OF THE DORBA TRAILS TO FIND
THESE CACHES. We walked the dirt utility roads and train tracks to
hide all of these caches. A good parking/starting point is the
convenience store on the corner of Centerville Rd. and Lake View
Pkwy.
Each cache is unique. Cachers may or may not want to attempt
them all at once. There will be tall grass, briars, avoidable
poison ivy, rocks, long hikes, railroad tracks, and chiggers
involved. Again, take lots of water and a buddy.
“Speak to Me” leads you into the Dark Side of the Moon. Here is
your chance to return if you don’t think you can enter.
Container is 3” x 5” army green cylinder tin. You may wish to
make a note of your starting time.
Good Luck!
As always, we leave you with the lyrics to “Speak to Me” by Pink
Floyd (lyrics have been changed to protect youngsters!)
"I've been mad for freaking years,
absolutely years,
been over the edge for yonks,
been working me buns off for bands..."
"I've always been mad,
I know I've been mad, like the
most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even
if you're not mad..."
