Amateur radio (a.k.a. HAM radio) and
Geocaching complement each other. And if you hunt many of the
caches in West Virginia, you will soon learn that cell phone
service isnt so good in many of the places where some of the best
WV caches have been hidden. The safety factor in being able
to contact someone while caching is invaluable! Almost the
entire state has coverage though several repeaters. The most
popular license for beginners is the Technician Class license,
which requires only a 35 multiple-choice question written
examination. The test is written with the beginner in
mind. You do not need to learn Morse Code to get your
Technician's license however you will need to translate Morse Code
to find this one.
The posted
coordinates are for the trail head and parking!!
This area of Coonskin (the old skeet
range) is now called Area 73 - and is the location of one of the
local Amateur Radio Club's Field Day site; one of several around
the state.
The Morse Code puzzle is located

If you have trouble decoding the audio
Morse code, you can send us an email and we will email a printable
copy of the Morse code message to assist with the
translation.
