A Geocachers Annual Event Cache #3 :-) Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pattycat: Time to archive this cache. It was a blast as usual. Until next year then, perhaps in September.

Happy Geotrails to all and again, thanks to all that donated goodies and to all the attended.

Geocache Description:

Hi all Geocachers, guess what time it is?

It’s time once again for me to post this year’s event cache (#3) held in the East Kootenays. This year’s event cache will take place July 30th, 31st, August 1st, (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). I will be there before the start date and I usually stay a day after the event has ended, (just to let you know).

The camping area that I have selected for this years event cache is really close to the Wapiti Cache and there are, or will be, more caches in the general area. This campground is not overly large, in just one area, but it is spread out. I’m hoping that we can get most of the area before muggles arrive to camp there which I’ve been informed may happen as this is a really nice area. That is the main reason I like to arrive a bit earlier so perhaps I can save most of the area for the event cache. If the camping area has been taken over by many muggles and there is no room for us, or if the bush is closed for the fire season, (which is a possibility) then I will have a back up plan so stay tuned to this cache page, (just in case) as I haven’t quite figured that one out as yet. There "were" 3 picnic tables and 2 poopers however there are quite a few camping areas with rock fire pits. I say “were” because on the 2 times my buddies and I scouted out this area not only were there more picnic tables but 2 were brand new yellow ones. I have no idea where they went.

To locate the area where things will be happening and are sure to be fun, if you’re coming from Cranbrook, turn off the main highway at approximately 49°24.045N and 115°22.611W. There’s a cache “RIGHT” there too. If you are coming from Fernie way, turn off the main highway at approximately 49°24.085N and 115°22.269W. Once you are on the secondary highway make the turn to get to the camping area at approximately 49°23.767N and 115°21.883W. I will be camped at approximately 49°23.125N and 115°21.758W which are the coords for the event cache site. The roads in are pretty good however there are a few wee bumps but even a large motor home can make it.

I have some games and such in mind to do this year and some of them I used previously (for any Geocachers that attended one or both event caches.) It involves decryption key use. There will also be some Q & A’s as usual so it would be best to buck up on your Geocaching knowledge and the decryption key. You should also know how to do “Seek and Find” word puzzles. I made one of my own. I have also decided to do the Geoscav which this time will be a timed event, (not sure on how much time but maybe stay tuned), so bring "stuff".

Another thing I have devised is to dress up as your Geocaching name and have your photo taken. This could turn out to be a lot of fun and possibly quite shocking too. An example would be; my Geocaching name is Pattycat so I would probably dress up like a cat. Another example is; if your Geocaching name is Diamond Willow and its two people, the “diamond” and the “willow” are pretty self explanatory. If you have a Geocaching name that you just can’t dress up as, use your imagination or ask others, (like me) for suggestions. If it still doesn’t work then dress up as something pertaining to Geocaching but try really hard to use your Geocaching name. Only the Geocachers that dress up as their Geocaching name(s) or as best they can or at least something that symbolizes Geocaching are eligible for the prize. There will be a vote on who is the best dressed name Geocacher.

There will also be a 50/50 draw as well as finding some wee caches that are part of another game I have devised, (which I’ve never done before) so I’m going to have to wing it or get help. As usual there will be a pot luck lunch/dinner which I have yet to determine what day to have it on, (but more than likely the Sunday). If you plan to attend the pot luck lunch/dinner please post a note saying what food you will be bringing so we don’t have too many of one thing.

As far as prizes I have some picked out such as the door prize, the first to arrive prize, as well as the furthest distance traveled prizes, (hopefully and different from 2004's). In order to qualify to win the door prize and/or the 50/50 draw(s) as well as the poker run, you must be there with your ticket(s) and/or all your cards after the pot luck is over, or perhaps before it starts or during. We'll just have to wing it here. There will be a poker run however because I have had to use the bucks out of my own pocket for the last 2 event cache games (for most of the items), this year each hand will be $5.00 which will go to paying for the gifts that I purchased for this years games and if needed for next years event cache. I am also requesting that “everyone” attending this years event cache whether for just a day, part of a day, or the entire weekend, please bring a cache goodie. That could be a container of whatever kind, a log book, pencil, and such, or the cache goodies themselves. It doesn’t have to be much at all. These will be used as part of the game I devised mentioned earlier so I’ll need all the help I can get. As I previously stated, I can’t do the entire cost myself this time.

And last but not least a stats update on the previous event caches that I organized. In 2003, 21 Geocachers attended; in 2004, 24 Geocachers attended, and I believe all had a good time at both events no matter if we couldn’t have a fire as in 2003 or it rained and rained in 2004. I am hoping for a bigger turn out as this year’s event cache may be the last one I do depending on how this one goes. I sure enjoy organizing the event caches and the best thing I got out of doing them was meeting Geocachers that I didn't know and seeing the ones I had already met. I'm hoping to see the Geocachers I met again at this year’s event cache as well as meet more Geocachers.

Feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions, or comments you may have at pattycat@shaw.ca and thanks in advance and hope to see many Geocachers there as well as ones I’ve already met.

Take care and Happy Geotrails.
Pattycat
