Beware the elementals Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Beddo: A quick visit this evening confirmed that all the trees are gone. I spotted a temporary sign attached to the fencing which stated that the area was being replanted as a habitat for red squirrels. As such, the cache will definately not be returning to the same location. I may have a hunt around the surrounding areas at some point to find a nearby location but sandhills don't make for good caching as you can't bury them!

Pics of the sign detailing work and the final moments of the cache have been uploaded. I've made a list of what was in the cache which will either go towards a new cache or be spread into other caches. The only item that has remained in the cache since its birth is the Fred Flintstone pencil top. There were 4 out of the 6 pens left (though there was a lid for a 5th one!).

Geocache Description:

This cache is adjacent to the Ainsdale and Birkdale Local Nature Reserve. The LNR is open to the public however this cache is not quite inside.

It is easy to get to, but pretty well concealed and is a Addis plastic box with a distinctive blue lid. There is a well build path nearby but the area directly around the cache could get muddy in the wet. I don't know how big the brambles will get in summer either ;0)

If you simply want to drop in, you can park right next to the site. If you want a drink, the sands pub shares the car park. If this car park is full during the summer, you should be able to get parked on the beach, just follow the signs to the Lido but it will cost you (sorry don't know how much)

If you want a laugh, take a look at Pontins over the road. The barbed wire topping to the fence is angled inwards to keep people from getting out and there is a distinct watch tower.

If you fancy a bit of a walk through the nature reserve you can park at the Birkdale end. There is beach parking (not free in season so you could park on the roads nearby) at 53:38:23N (53.6398) 3:01:46W (-3.0294) so you could even walk along the seafront and watch the swallows flying about the edge of the dunes.
