Cruzin #1 is the first in a series of 4WD recommended only caches, allow
yourself 4-5 hours to complete this one.
The hardest part of this cache is
actually finding how to get to the starting waypoint, so we'll help you out there. If you
head to S31 54.263 / E116 11.969 this should lead you to the entry road for the pipeline
track. From there head along the pipeline for about 100 meters and turn left on the track
just past the electrical substation, then just follow the track. Two bear rights at the 2
forks, should have you pretty close to your first target.
The track itself is fairly sedate
for most 4WDer's the start is a little rocky and slow going then it becomes a little sandy
and dirt which will speed you along a little until about 75% of the way through where some
serious hill climbs can be attempted or there are easier tracks if you so choose. None of
the tracks are very difficult and some of the more challenging options could have you
spinning some doughnuts as you climb over the rockface. We've tried all the tracks and
none are what you would call extreme ... just FUN!
The waypoints you are looking for
are ... 1.Giant Jarrah - 2.View from the hill - 3.Beyond the black stump - 4.Shady Rest -
5.Lunch Break - 6.Mud Pit - 7.Convict Camp - 8.Da Cache ... all spoilers have been
provided. Be wary of other track users and all way points have been placed where there is
access to park away from the main track.
Some of the history of the area at
the giant jarrah tree was a pit sawyers settlement from the 1860's and the hillsides
around here 'used' to be full of these giants. A further 150 meters down along the track
you can see the pits where the men used to toil all day long. The Convict camp is where
the convicts that helped build the road to York lived and the road station that was built
here in the 1850's. The only remains are the stone fireplaces scattered through the bush
on the northern side of the road opposite the spring.
Also be wary as the track crosses
four roads along your trail so be cautious when crossing the side roads.
For those not owning or not having
access to a 4WD the last waypoint and cache can be easily accessed by a two wheel drive
vehicle so if you'd like to find the cache without all the fun ... drop us an email and
we'll give you the co-ords to the last waypoint. This option will only become available
after the cache has been found the way it was intended. The cache was rated 3/5 by clayjars rating system but we personally feel it's a 2/3
Good luck and be
careful out there!
