“INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST”

Pioneer Cemetery (All photos by The Shadow)
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of small, rural, historic
cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In less than a year, the
quest has grown to almost a hundred caches hidden in nine northeast
Indiana counties, and the hiders have grown to three cacher teams,
each comprised of a Man and His Dog... PRAIRIEPARTNERS has set a record for one-day ISQ finds on
10-16-2004 at 55! 94 cacher teams have logged over 1,300

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST
#95
”The Three Artillerymen!"
The Shadow has selected Tamarack Cemetery
in Grant Township, DeKalb County for your latest Quest. The oldest
burial we could find a record for was in 1858. We have named it The
Three Artillerymen for the three Veterans of The Great War that we
found here, that were members of Field Artillery
Batteries:
HOWARD D.
ROBBINS
INDIANA
>CHIEF MECH BTRY E 70 FA
(1900-1957)
FRANCIS E.
STRONG
INDIANA
PVT. BTRY B 150 FLD ARTY
(1891-1963)
CHARLES D. BALYEAT
INDIANA
PVT. BTRY D 12 FA 2 DIV
(1898-1965)
There are other vets buried here, and one, another
artilleryman, who appears to have died in service, JUST A FEW DAYS
SHORT OF HIS 18TH BIRTHDAY (17-year-old KIA's were rare in any
modern war):
RONALD T. ELDRIDGE
INDIANA
CORPORAL 15TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION,
2ND INFANTRY DIVISION ARTILLERY
KOREA
PURPLE HEART
(1933-1951)
The cache container is
small. BYOP.Park with care. . Payton Manning may be on
the verge of breaking touchdown pass records in the NFL, but when
at Tennessee U., in three tries, he NEVER beat the Gators! Go Urban
Meyer!! As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out.
